Play Off Time Awaits Us All

A1 Challenge vs KCC Leopards

Both teams have had a strong finish in the regular season. KCC Leopards had a rather slow start to the season with notable absentees in one of their star players Miriam Hamala to mention but afew but as the season went on they kept getting better and better.

With players like Becky Akullo, Nakaziba Marione and Oketcho Flavia getting back to the rhythm they definitely made a solid end to the season finishing in third position.

A1 Challenge has however stuck together and groomed a fine unit. With lots of experience coming from Kizza Elizabeth, Mulwana Olivia, Namukasa Betty, Kyomugisha Gloria, Viola Akumu and Namayega Josephine mixed with the agility of Okot Barbra, Mavita, Dorothy, Maggie and Kassim Hatima to mention but afew, one can only imagine the depth in the squad. And this is not all. Lokidi Angie, Fredrikah and Dorcas are other exceptionally technically gifted players.

A1 Challenge coach Nyambogo Hamza will have a headache when it comes to selecting his first five starters because i can tell you for a fact that the ladies are looking great and the mood in the camp is great.

Next week we will see the two units clash in the play offs semi finals best of 5 game series.

This is most definitely going to be a juicy fixture and i could tip the scales in my favor because i know for a fact that the winner in this fixture will grab the championship for the 2010-2011 season. Quote me on that.

See you then.

A1 Challenge Runs Over Nabisunsa Girls

A1 CHALLENGE 103 NABISUNSA 34

At 5:30 in the MUBS main court saw A1 Challenge take on Nabisunsa Girls School in a weekend where most clubs are playing their last games as the regular season comes to an end.

Nabisunsa playing for pride, i believe, though they couldn't continue with the win they registered last week. A1 Challenge currently preparing for the play-offs next week were on a roll.

With almost everything clicking for them it's no wonder they managed to score over the century mark. A little tightening of the defense will see them go far especially as the play-offs commence soon.

See all y'all during play-offs next week.

Congrats ladies

A1 CHALLENGE REGISTER ANOTHER WELL FOUGHT WIN AGAINST MAGIC STORMERS

A1 CHALLENGE 49
MAGIC STORMERS 34

A 3:30pm kick off saw A1 Challenge face Magic Stormers. A fairly good crowd came to follow the game. A1 Challenge still missing the services of Mavita Ali who is still recovering from an ankle and a minor knee injury, Dorothy, Khisa Mary, Dorcas and Fredrikah who all have academic commitments and couldn’t quite make the team.
Magic Stormers were intact the team isn’t suffering any serious injury worries or absentees. Their inspirational players like Rachel whose offensive and defensive game displays combined with her athleticism are a big worry to her opponents, together with Sandra who has had an impressive all round improvement in her game among others.
The first and second quarter was being controlled by the Magic Stormers. The Magic Stormers executed an excellent match up in their entire display; from the rebounds to the tight defense and effective offensive game. It’s no wonder that by half time the scores were 19 for Magic Stormers and 17 for A1 Challenge.
The introduction of Liz who then combined with Betty to suffocate all the Magic Stormers threats in the offense well at least most of it. The two later on went on to score double figures which lifted the team above the Magic stormso to speak. And when the Magic Stormers“Number 4”man of the match picked her fifth foul and the foul out call was given, that was literally game over for the Stormers
The defensive partnership of Betty and Liz was the cornerstone for the A1 Challenge come back in the 3rd quarter. Many of the fans thought that Liz should work on her athleticism but if you have watched her over the season you realize that’s almost how she plays. The pair was also picking up the rebounds, and blocking off shots, double-teaming which worked a great deal.
The agility of Barbra also has to be mentioned because she threaded a couple of good passes and intercepted passes that could have hurt them had they gone through. The experience of Namayega Josephine, Angella, Gloria Kyomugisha and Olivia Mulwana can’t go without mention. When we put into consideration the fact that we are nearing the play offs one can only hope they continue with their form.
Mugasha Carol, Maggie and Vicky, great team players provided the extra shield in the defense and offense respectively.
A point of concern that could cause worry especially in the play-offs is the high turnover rate. Then probably the free throw accuracy is way below par. We may get away with those blunders in the regular season but during the play-offs such small details can cost a team the championship.
So at the end of the day it’s a good hard earned win for A1 Challenge having already secured their place in the play-offs.
Without a doubt my man-of-the-match award for this game goes to Betty who rose above the storm and literally gave a great all round game display both offensively and defensively.
Next Week
Match day resumes when A1 Challenge play KIU ladies who also have a play-off spot to secure and are not taking any game lightly. See you then.
God Bless
