A1 CHALLENGE FIGHT'S HARD TO PASS THE LADY MARINES TEST 43:19[FULL TIME]

"If Shakespeare can compare all of life to a stage, maybe it's not odd to believe that part of the play can take place on a basketball court."

Probably not particularly in the Makerere Courts which still under the wet surface hosted quite a number of games.

Credit to the Lady Marines who really fought throughout the game, being led by Barbra-Marion who has been their most on form player scoring 11 points. Asa one of her team-mates had an equally decent game though it's clear they need more games to gain experience and confidence so they can start winning for stats sake.

The Lady Marine troopers from Constance, Barbra Marion, Jessica, Sylivia, Asa, Josephine, Connie and Olivia have to learn how to step up offense as a team and defense as a unit too.

A1 Challenge ladies have to work on their discipline off the ball and learn more and more to trust each other when sharing the ball with team mates.

And also the issue of precision in the A1 Challenge offense [score conversion], because defensively Aggie has stepped up her defensive discipline thanks to the injury that Bazira Liz has on her right arm wrist earlier in the week, pairing with Larry K.

Ntale Victoria stepping up again and leading the A1 Challenge team gunning 11 points and if your ask me, this hunger that her game together with Meg Maggie and Kakkazi Carol have brought will take them places so to speak.

Sylivia Nakazibwe and Larry K. both scoring 6 points. Sylivia having a fairly decent game especially with quite a number of steals and assists as well.

As for the play of the day, we thought it right and fitting to give it to Kakkazi Carol after faking a pass which left two Lady Marine players lost thereby giving her space to drive in for a beautiful two points late in the fourth quarter.

Couple of noise was being raised by the low points being scored, but with wet surfaces that we have thanks to the heavy down pour, one would be asking so much from the players, especially when one considers injuries and what could happen.

Notable absentees from this game were Barbra Okot, Bagiire Dorcus, Mukula Fredrikah, Lokidi Angella.

Well won ladies.

NKUMBA LADY MARINES TEST IS DUE ON SUNDAY AT 14:00 HRS @ MAKERERE GROUND COURT

A1 Challenge wait to pounce on the Nkumba Lady Marines on Sunday 14:00hrs. Most of the A1 Challenge ladies were disappointed by their loss to Lady Canons last Sunday but are eager to right the wrongs and get back their winning ways.

The Nkumba Lady Marines are so far having a baptism of fire in their debut season in the top flight ladies basketball.

Their defeat to the Magic Stormers some weeks ago is testament to the woes the Lady Marines have on their plate. Players like Esther Marion and Constance Nakayenze, their most promising offensive threats are yet to figure out how the "big ladies" play.

A1 Challenge will be missing their talisman guard in Khisa Marie, who is off till the second round, Okot Barbra who is recovering from a knee injury, Angellah Lokidi recovering from a broken ankle and other long time absentees like Erykah and Bagiire Dorcas Mirembe.

It suffices to say that the voids left by the missing players have been well covered so to speak by the return of Nalubega Maggie, Ntale Vicky, Kikkazi Carol and promising youngstar Nakazibwe Sylivia who have boosted the squad hence causing team-selection headache for Coach Jeff Omondi which is a good thing if you ask me.

Bazira Liz will have to stay safe after being dismissed in the Lady Canons game in the name of foul trouble. She will be looking to Larry K especially to help her in picking the rebounds both offensively and defensively.

Generally, Team A1 Challenge has to up their precision in the offense as they tighten up their defense, seeing that in their previous game against Lady Canons, after tightening up their defense if they had taken their chances as they came, it most definitely would have been a nervy ending.

Having said thay, the game will be starting at 14:00hrs at the Makerere Grounds Court.

Stay tuned as we will be there to bring you the action as it happens.

One Lurv....God Bless

LADY CANONS STRIKE AGAIN BEATING A1 CHALLENGE 52:37

A 15:30 afternoon kick-off in what looked like a wierd weather threatening to shower didn't affect the start of this game.

A1 Challenge attacked intensively and defended compactly surely as a unit being led by Gloria Kyomugisha, looked certain to go-hard till the end. There was a confident feeling from the A1 team and one would without doubt think this is surely going to be one of those great revenge moments.

By the end of the first quarter A1 Challenge was in the lead by a point [08:09]. The second and third quarters saw the Lady Canons step up a notch and a little lack of concentration, loose passing and lack of communication among the team cohesively saw Lady Canons open up an over 20 point difference at some point in the match.

Maureen Amoding and Purity Adhiambo's lethal offense contributed double-figures and that swang alot in their win.

With their centre Bazira Liz being fouled out, things could only get tougher. However, having said that, the fourth quarter saw A1 Challenge tightened up defensively and for one moment only if the team put up some points as a unit, we would be in for one hell of a tense finish.

Strong points for starters is Birungi Miriam's shooting if strongly worked upon plus the other shooters in Barbra, Olivia, Maggie and Carol could be a huge plus for the team.

Also working together as a team, especially when things are not going well, that shows huge deal of maturity because on court all we got is ourselves remember "A team above all. Above all a team"

Lastly defensive discipline as a team will surely see A1 Challenge team, especially seeing that the Lady Canons full-court press strategy was quite a handful considering that players were holding onto the ball alittle more and yet quick inter-passing amongst team mates is the sure way of beating it.

This defeat is the second in the season, but we'll gladly take the lessons we learn't and its surely game on against Nkumba Lady Marines this Sunday at 14:00hours in the Makerere Basketball Court.

The only way to shut up all the doubting Thomases and haters is to WIN and WIN hard. The next game is against the Nkumba Lady Marines, see you then.

HeaRt, mental strength and team-work will see us through ladies.

GO HARD !!!!!!

UCU LADY CANONS HOST A1 CHALLENGE TOMORROW AT 15:30HRS YMCA COURTS

UCU Lady Canons tomorrow host the A1 Challenge who have been on a roll over the past games, since their false start opener against KCC Leopards.

The UCU Lady Canons with a couple of new signings joining them from campus keep their squad pretty intact and just seek solidity. Ofcourse possible players to look out for will be; Purity Adhiambo, Lorraine Akinyi, Maureen Amoding, Brenda Mbone, Namirimu Angellah, Proscovia Peace, Awino Virginia and Nakirijja Peace whose shooting abilities have been tried and tested.

New players like Sandra Munduru and Everlyne Wahonya bring hustle, experience, and toughness to the general complexion of the team. Munduru comes to the Lady Canons after taking one year off from playing previously with A1 Challenge.

Wahonya is from Kenya and has played for the U18 national team in Kenya and is looking to grab significant playing time away from some of the older, more experienced ladies.

Other utility players are Ruth Kirungi, Monica Tumusiime and Grace Kusaba would be starting if the technicalities are sorted.

Juliet Layoo returns for her last season. One of the originals and highly experienced McLine Akello still offers quality “big man” minutes off the bench.

Team A1 Challenge , however, have fresh players playing with ethuthiasm and resilience, Vicky Ntale and Meg Maggie are like "new-signings" coming from their long season break.

Kyomugisha Gloria hopefully has recovered from fever and will be available to add to the pedigree of the team. Fredrickah and Khisa Marie hopefully will be around to add to the depth of the team having joined the training camp lately.

The rest of the line-up is pretty fit and ready for selection by Coach Geoffrey Omondi; Bazira Liz, Larry K, Irakoze Doryn, Olivia Mulwana, Kikkazi Carol, Mugasha Carol, Meg Maggie, Ntale Vicky, Birungi Miriam, Okot Barbra and Nakazibwe Sylivia.

Angellah Lokidi is still recovering from the freak-foot injury.

Game is on tomorrow Sunday 20th at 3:30pm YMCA Basketball Courts.

Stay Tuned for live updates....

Friday Cracker Expected As A1 Challenge Host Magic Stormers

The resilience in the display that Team A1 Challenge is putting up in the past couple of weeks is testimony to their hardwork and collosal team effort.

Last season ended on a not so good note when they lost to Nabisunsa, KIU Rangers and the Magic Stormers and this brought a huge dent on their confidence levels.

This time around the team is seemingly solid both on the defense and offensive discipline. With players like Ntale Victoria and Nalubega Maggie back on court after the break last season, there is a refreshing aura about the overall team. Defensively players like Okot Barbra, Sylivia, Liz Bazira, Mugasha Carol and Larresah are all working hard on limiting their opponents score rates, offensively Ntale Victoria, Nalubega Maggie, Aggie and Doreen time-and-again keep on working on their overall gel so as to execute their movement as a unit.

With the leadership and intelligence of their guards, A1 Challenge have a challenge of consistently punishing teams when they have the chance. This is not only an opportunity to tighten their grip on the top 3 positions but also in the back of every players mind is the salient-revenge-mission being sought.

Mulwana Olivia, Kakkazi Carol, Kyomugisha Gloria and Sylivia are all available depending on how Coach Jeff Omondi decides to juggle this depth of talent both in the starting five and the bench.

In an earlier chat with Ntale Victoria, i highlighted how their return from the break is like a huge boost to the team depth having been limited last season.

All eyes are going to be on Sylivia n' Rukia Meeme who consistently tend to be the heart and soul of the Magic Stormers with an impeccable work rate.

If coach Jeff Omondi can take care of that then the team execute their offense precisely, then most definitely my bet is on A1 Challenge going on and stretching their run to 4-1, seeing off Nabisunsa G.S, KIU Rangers and just recently Makerere Cubs.

This game is on at 18:30hrs on Friday at the YMCA Courts, followed by DMark Power against Miracle Eagles at 20:30hrs.

However, tomorrow there are games both Div II and Div 3B action:

UMU Flames vs Blue Jackets @ 18:30hrs
City Oil vs Kings @ 20:30hrs

Till the next update, stay blessed.

A1 Challenge Put Makerere Cubs To The Sword Gunning 54:04

After what is deemed to be one of baskeball's finest moments in the AND1 which was held yesterday at the Makerere Main Grounds Court, both to the fans and the players for all sorts of reasons were left with a hang-over thanks to the long night.

A1 Challenge had an early morning game on Sunday at 09:30hrs which caught many pants-down...me inclusive had signs of fatigue especially amongst some of the ladies who were out late watching the AND1 against the UG Select team.

All in all, a mean defensive solid performance and lethal offense is responsible for that score.

The next question to be asked is if they can replicate that form against UCU Lady Canons and their closest competitors, then we may be relishing the chance of re-living one of our finest years in 2005.

As of now, it is on to the next assignment. All i can say is well won ladies.
