UCU Lady Canons hand A1 Challenge their second loss

UCU Lady Canons 77: A1 Challenge 48

On a day when the entire Muslim community was celebrating Idd addhuha, the FUBA league continued with juicy fixtures for the fans.

Lady Canons were against A1 Challenge and this was bound to be one hell of a match considering the fact that the last time these teams faced off, the game was won by a three point buzzer shot from A1’s Namayega Josephine.

It was slated for the 5:30 kick off and the fans came in plenty, thanks to the fact that it was a public holiday.

A1 was missing Mavita out on official duty, Aggie, Fredericka out on academic commitments and Maggie who is ill and still recovering, and Coach Hamza who was out of the country on official duties also.

A1 clad in their purple outfit and the Lady Canons in their sky blue shorts and white tops, with the good weather all that was left was the whistle.

Some folks would rather forget what happened in the first, second and third quarter.
Lady Canons dominated in almost all areas. Whether or not this has anything to do with their loss to A1 Challenge in round one, that was left for us to judge.

From too many turnovers to lack of sharpness in the offense to lack of discipline in the defense really cost A1 Challenge.

Glimpses of their A1 Challenge's top-notch defense was seen when Hatima double-teamed with Liz chocking the Number 16 in the UCU outfit who seemingly had a great game shooting at leisure. Actually the Lady Canons displayed an excellent all round top-notch display.

The scores were 62:32 by the third quarter and yes I know what you are thinking most A1 players had given up on chasing the Lady Canons and concentrated on damage control.

The fourth quarter display by A1 Challenge was a breath of fresh air. All of a sudden Mugasha Carol was nailing 3-pointer shots which we all know she has been working hard on during training. Josephine and Khisa Mary tightened their defense. The mood in the A1 bench had changed. And their overall game was good but again it proved to be a case of too little too late.

At one point Lady Canons had the luxury of bringing on a whole team B from their bench. Late in the fourth quarter with the scores at 70:36, the miserable free point shots by Namayega Josephine summarized the performance on the day. By A1 Challenge standards, the performance was poor.

Final score by the end of the game was UCU Lady Canons 77: A1 Challenge 48. The second loss of A1 Challenge this season.

Its back to the drawing board for A1 Challenge and they they sort out the mistakes that cost them today.

Otherwise see you all on 19th September when A1 Challenge try to orchestrate their winning ways against Makerere Cubs.
