UCU Lady Canons Win The Series 4-0 To Take The 2010 FUBA Championship Trophy

UCU Lady Canons : 69
A1 Challenge : 61

Determination and belief plus an ingredient of hardwork saw the Lady Canons win the FUBA 2010 Championship in the Ladies Category.

A late fight put on by A1 Challenge was not enough to shake off the Lady Canons off their firm grip on the game later on the championship.

With the inspiration of their senior players in Kyomugisha Gloria, Mulwana Olivia, Mavita Ali, Namayega Josephine and Namukasa Betty, A1 still fell short. Okot Barbra whose well known for her lethal 3 point shooting capabilities and Olivia Mulwana who doubles up as her partner in crime were kept from playing their game thanks to the take-no-prisoners-hostage defensive strategy of the Lady Canons.

Angella Lokidi had a fairly good game both offensively and defensively putting a couple of hard earned rebounds that kept the Lady Canons defense on the alert.

A1's Maggie who was called into the squad following the injury on Bazira Liz and the gap left by the departure of Anne Vogts showed blistering perfection in her shots. But whether it was a case of too little to late, you decide.

Once again the almost perfect execution of the Lady Canons offense and staying uptight in the defense collectively as a unit turned out key in their victory. With Brenda Mbone, Akinyi Lorraine, Anastacia Njeri and Frances Nabulobi worked intelligently, though not as authoritatively as in the previous games, but they managed to keep their lead intact.

The adventurous spirit in Brenda kept her running into the A1 defense and picking the fouls. Her free throw shot accuracy was good. It should be said that the overall free throw shooting accuracy of the Lady Canons was much superior as compared to that of A1 Challenge.

The re-building phase in the A1 Challenge team begins as afew of the players call it quits and scouting has to be done so as to find replacements for the gaps left.

A blend of the vibrance and athleticism that the young blood can bring to the team mixed with the calm and experience of the other team players in the squad can form a compact squad to be reckoned with.

The spotlight will be on the maturity of the youthful A1 Challenge team; Dorcas and Fredrickah and whether they are ready to be given playing time as a new season begins in a few months to come.

However, we also wait to see whether the A1 Coach, Mr. Nyambogo Hamza will stay put at the club and work out a come-back plan for the next season.

Times come and times go but one thing that we should be certain of is that the 2011 season guarantees us more flair, guts, competition and nail-biting drama.

UCU Lady Canons Win The 2010 Ladies FUBA Championship Best-Of-Seven Finals 4 : 0

UCU Lady Canons : 69
A1 Challenge : 61

Lady Canons literally dominated from start to finish in all departments and their anti-dote was hardly figured out tactically.

They went on to win the series 4:0 a "clean sweep" which literally sends the entire A1 camp to the drawing board to plan on how to get titles back into the trophy board.

Full story coming up soon.

UCU Lady Canons Defeat A1 Challenge 66 : 50 To Take The Series To 3-0

Game III, which i thought would be a spectacle to the eye turned out to be pretty dull in as far as guts and the fighting spirit is concerned.

The Lady Canons bench was pretty much the same prior to the start of the game with every one of them looking to be in top notch condition especially after the games had been postponed.

A1 Challenge bench had quite a number of new faces especially after Anne Vogts travelled abroad.
Khisa Mary and Munduru Sandra are all sidelined due to illness.
Bazira Liz out of the play-offs due to a broken wrist bone which she sustained in Game II.

A1 Challenge brought on Dorothy, Maggie to cover up the gaps that had been left exposed.

Kick off time was 4pm and it took a short while for the Lady Canons to stamp their authority in the game. Early on leading by over 15 points. With Anastacia Njeri, Brendah Mbone and Lorraine Akinyi all getting involved in the game from the start.
And their gel as a team they kept making it hard for the A1 Challenge offense and they kept getting frustrated.

One thing that A1 Challenge didn't do quite well was playing as a unit both offensively and defensively.

By the fourth quarter Mavita Ali was benched for a foul on Njeri Anastacia which seems to have been provoked by the latter.
We all await on the decision whether or not she will be allowed to play Game IV.

Lots of individual contests in the defensive game of A1 Challenge with Vicky, Josephine, Betty, Barbra and Gloria all getting involved but the Lady Canons proved to an edge over the A1 Challenge opposition.

The officiating was not up to the standards for a FUBA final, but all that can be said now is well won Lady Canons.

However in the mens catergory, Ben Komakech's inspired DMark Power rose above all odds to beat a determined Kyambogo Warriors side in double over time to stretch their lead to 3-0 in the best-of-seven final.

DMark Power welcomed back their point guard Emma Enabu who just returned from abroad. And he proved pivotal in their win coming from the bench and later on in the game taking over proceedings after Ben Komakech had been fouled out and quickly having an impact in a game that DMark Power went on to win 118 : 109.

The Warriors foul trouble on almost the entire starting line up did not do them any good. With their experienced and most influential players all being fouled out. Jude, Abdullah, Henry Malinga, Ronnie Kaseu to mention but a few.

Having said that, its not over until its over. So A1 Challenge and Kyambogo Warriors will be looking back and see what seems have gone wrong on court and try to mend that before Game IV on Wednesday evening. There's still a chance mathematically of both teams taking the title if they can we all the remaining four games. Thats a huge ask but theres only one way to find out. So lets meet on Wednesday evening at YMCA.

Game IV is on Wednesday evening @ 6pm YMCA court.

Preview Game III : A1 Challenge Vs UCU Lady Canons

Game III of the ladies play-offs best-of-seven series finals are set to be played on Sunday afternoon at YMCA beginning at 4pm.

The cancellation of the Games in the MTN Arena by National Council of Sports for many reasons among which, was the detoriating conditions of the court which was not suitable to host the any FUBA games. This eventually led the FUBA committe to extend the games till Sunday at YMCA the traditonal home of basketball.

With the Lady Canons leading the best-of-seven-series [2-0] and also high on confidence, Game III will be a case of playing their normal game. Hard defensively and extremely swift on the transition offensively. Mandy Juruni will be telling they ladies to keep with the winning foam.

With the brilliance of Akinyi Lorraine, Maureen Amoding, Brenda Mbone and the guts of Flavia Oketcho, that force will be a combination to be followed closely.

Whether or not the likes of Namukasa Betty, Namayega Josephine, Kyomugisha Gloria, Lokidi Angella, Barbra Okot and Mugasha Carol in the A1 Challenge defense can contain it, we wait to see.

One thing is for sure, the bad wrist injury to Bazira Liz has ruled her out of the remaining season.

The illness of Sandra Munduru and Khisa Mary will be a huge blow. Whether or not they can recover in time for the game is what we will all have to wait and see.

A huge responsibility rests on Mavita Ali, Hatima Kassim, Angella Lokidi, Namayega Josephine and Olivia Mulwana for the offensive sharpness.

Anne Vogts will also be missed since she's out of country on official matters. Their replacements heading into Game III will be extremely crucial.

Questions to be asked:

Who are the starting five and can they display a match winning perfomance on court to stir a come-back in the play-offs since they trail 2-0 to UCU Lady Canons?

When is it necessay to substitute and what impact the substitute will have? All questions that rest on the shoulders of their coach Nyambogo Hamza.
