UCU Lady Canons Sweep the Semi-final Play-offs 3:0

UCU LADY CANONS  52
A1 CHALLENGE  50

A1 Challenge's progress into the next stage of the finals was dealt a huge blow in the semi-final playoff by the nations number one ranked ladies side. Sweeping the game 5 series 3:0.
Much as the UCU Lady Canons didn't particularly showcase one of their finest performances, they did just enough to thrust themselves to the 2012/13 EUBA-AIRTEL finals for back to back seasons running.

It was a really hard fight seeing the A1 Challenge team stage a late rally with Hatima Kassim and Birungi Mariam sinking 3's towards the final whistle which closed the Lady Canons lead to just 2 points but it was a case of too little too late.

A1 Challenge look forward to a 3rd place play off position against the loser between KCCA Leopards and Magic Stormers game.

What a season this has been....
Thanks to you all

GAME TWO IS BAGGED BY THE LADY CANONS [80:50] LEADING THE SERIES 2-0

A1 CHALLENGE:  50
LADY CANONS:  80

UCU LADY CANONS LEADING THE BEST OF FIVE SERIES [2-0]

One asks why are we weighed down as though there is no solution, why don't we look up and get inspired?
Inspiration is definitely what the A1 Challenge team was looking for as they came face to face with the number one ranked team in Ugandan basketball as far as the ladies are concerned.

The quest for inspiration is seemingly going to go on for a while seeing that their nervousness in the first two quarters gave out quite a number of turn-overs for which they were punished for, with no reply.

Lorraine Akinyi and Purity Adhiambo were at it again with great assistance from Peace Proscovia who was gave the A1 offense quite a hard time. Maureen Amoding keep the score board ticking with Brenda Mbone and Angella all having decent games.

A familiar face to the A1 team in Sandra, also had some time on court, seeing she has been restricted to limited playing time, coming from the bench for most of the time.

A1 Challenge were missing Larrisah Kabuji, Irakoze Doreen, Khisa Marie and Fredrikah who have been long time absentees. Also missing in action was Mugasha Carol and Olivia Mulwana.

This loss leaves A1 Challenge team with one chance for redemption seeing that the Lady Canons have won 2 games in the best of five series.
What this means is that A1 Challenge has to win all the remaining three games to book a place in the finals.

This is a huge ask, and if the A1 Challenge team is going to pull this off, it has to be seen in every single player that steps on court and is wearing the jersey, their game, their hussle, their team work and how they pick themselves when they are trailing because in this play-off stage CHARACTER and RESILIENCE are surely one of the most tested elements in every basketball player.

Game III is on Friday 16th December at the Lugogo Sports Arena @ 6:30pm.

UCU LADY CANONS TAKE GAME ONE 67:52

Friday marked the beginning of the FUBA-Airtel semi final play-offs, which kicked off quite late after the heavy down-pour.

With a wet surface, the games were in doubt but it was decided that games were going to proceed as scheduled though it was quite late stretching till 1:00am in the morning.

A1 Challenge suffered from foul trouble seeing, Bazira Liz, Nantongo Agnes, Ntale Victoria all fouled out and with their guard Sylivia Nakazibwe still recovering from a ankle muscle strain.

After coming close and leveling the scores in the third quarter, the blue clouds in the name of foul trouble came in, that was it for A1 Challenge.

Lady Canons turned on the heat in Lorraine Akinyi and Purity Adhiambo together with Peace Proscovia doing the damage. With Game II on Sunday at 6:00pm the university outfit should be oozing with confidence.

Its back to the drawing board for the A1 Challenge team.

Game II is on Sunday @ 6pm @ Lugogo Sports Arena.
See you there.

A1 SEE OFF GLADIATORS TO LAND THEMSELVES A DATE WITH DEFENDING CHAMPS LADY CANONS

A1 CHALLENGE :  60
GLADIATORS :  36

The quarter final playoff place was sealed in game two as A1 Challenge turned on the heat late in the Game to see off the Gladiators but this came at a price seeing that about five players went off with knocks.

The victory see's them land a date with the defending champs UCU Lady Canons, and game one is due Friday  09th November 2012 at the YMCA courts.

The slippery Kampala weather may not give us the best of surfaces in YMCA court but that is final. Seeing that it's the rainy season, fast breaks and coast to coast basketball may be approached with extra caution, considering the risk of getting prone to injuries especially on the wet surfaces.

Sylivia Nakazibwe, Liz Bazira, Hatima Kassim will be followed keenly considering the fact that the semi-finals are best of five and they face one of their toughest and most lethal opponents in the ladies league who beat them 4-0 in the last years finals.

A major performance of heart, team work and resilience needs to be put up to see of off the Lady Canons and book a place in the 2012-13 final.

Easier said than done considering how lethal the Lady Canons have thrashed every opposition that has come their way except for their only loss in the regular season against KCCA Leopards.

@ UCU Lady Canons Player focus: Verginia Awino, Purity Adhiambo, Lorraine Akinyi, Peace Proscovia, Mbone Brenda, Maureen Amoding, Brenda Mbone, Captain Angella Namirimu and Peace Nakirijja among others as Coach Okello Boniface will be looking to engineer a fourth championship for the university outfit.

@ A1 Challenge player focus: Lokidi Angella, Kisukye Carol, Okot Barbra, Kassim Hatima, Nakazibwe Sylvia, Birungi Mariam, Mulwana Olivia, Nantongo Agnes, Bazira Liz, Kyomugisha Gloria, Mugasha Carol and Captain Ntale Victoria.
