UCU Lady Canons Win The Series 4-0 To Take The 2010 FUBA Championship Trophy

UCU Lady Canons : 69
A1 Challenge : 61

Determination and belief plus an ingredient of hardwork saw the Lady Canons win the FUBA 2010 Championship in the Ladies Category.

A late fight put on by A1 Challenge was not enough to shake off the Lady Canons off their firm grip on the game later on the championship.

With the inspiration of their senior players in Kyomugisha Gloria, Mulwana Olivia, Mavita Ali, Namayega Josephine and Namukasa Betty, A1 still fell short. Okot Barbra whose well known for her lethal 3 point shooting capabilities and Olivia Mulwana who doubles up as her partner in crime were kept from playing their game thanks to the take-no-prisoners-hostage defensive strategy of the Lady Canons.

Angella Lokidi had a fairly good game both offensively and defensively putting a couple of hard earned rebounds that kept the Lady Canons defense on the alert.

A1's Maggie who was called into the squad following the injury on Bazira Liz and the gap left by the departure of Anne Vogts showed blistering perfection in her shots. But whether it was a case of too little to late, you decide.

Once again the almost perfect execution of the Lady Canons offense and staying uptight in the defense collectively as a unit turned out key in their victory. With Brenda Mbone, Akinyi Lorraine, Anastacia Njeri and Frances Nabulobi worked intelligently, though not as authoritatively as in the previous games, but they managed to keep their lead intact.

The adventurous spirit in Brenda kept her running into the A1 defense and picking the fouls. Her free throw shot accuracy was good. It should be said that the overall free throw shooting accuracy of the Lady Canons was much superior as compared to that of A1 Challenge.

The re-building phase in the A1 Challenge team begins as afew of the players call it quits and scouting has to be done so as to find replacements for the gaps left.

A blend of the vibrance and athleticism that the young blood can bring to the team mixed with the calm and experience of the other team players in the squad can form a compact squad to be reckoned with.

The spotlight will be on the maturity of the youthful A1 Challenge team; Dorcas and Fredrickah and whether they are ready to be given playing time as a new season begins in a few months to come.

However, we also wait to see whether the A1 Coach, Mr. Nyambogo Hamza will stay put at the club and work out a come-back plan for the next season.

Times come and times go but one thing that we should be certain of is that the 2011 season guarantees us more flair, guts, competition and nail-biting drama.
