A1 BRUSHES OFF GLADIATORS TO FINISH ROUND ONE ON A HIGH...[52:31]
On what was seemingly a tricky opposition, A1 Challenge seemed to fight their way through it all. But again hasn't that been the story of the entire first round. Even when faced with the toughest of opposition, they fight and keep fighting.
By far and wide, the A1 guard in Kyomugisha Gloria had one of the most instrumental games against Gladiators till the damage was done and then she was rested in the fourth quarter. She finished the game with 5 points but that doesn't come close to her over-all contribution in the game.
Offensively, Birungi Mariam came in handy to join captain Vicky Ntale in doing the damage, both having a game high 13 points.
Birungi Mariam's scintillating all round game won her the man-of-the-match accolade. She had a healthy number of steals, rebounds and offensively she was untouchable.
Gladiators huffed and puffed with their big-man Lillian gunning 10 points but thats all that there is to remember in the Gladiators game no disrespect.
Missing in action were a number of players in; Larry Kabuji, Doreen Irakoze, Liz Bazira, Dorcus Bagiire, Angie Lokidi to mention but a few.
This is half way the journey and the ladies promise to keep fit [did i hear an Amen from Khisa Marie] and work together so as to gel as a team and better still as a family.
Big thank you to all those who have been working tirelessly in the A1 Challenge manangement, the team, the fans for making all this possible and come the second round, we urge you to keep on keeping on as together we fight our way to getting our second championship. Yes.....i said it. It's going to be tough but TOGETHER WE CAN......and it's on that note that we say YES WE CAN.
Have a lovely break and see y'all on court for round two.
All the best,
KJ

A1 CHALLENGE SEEKING TO END ROUND ONE ON A HIGH AS THEY FACE GLADIATORS
Training sessions have been intense most definitely, emphasis is mainly on teamwork, speed and precision on the offense.
Concern's over the big men missing out in the training sessions arose, but as Captain Ntale Vicky says play hard, play smart, play heart.
Game day is Sunday on 09:30hrs at YMCA and we all seek to end the round one on a high.

A1 CHALLENGE TROUNCE OVER THE CRANE HIGH LADIES 74:26 AND DEDICATE WIN TO MAVITA ALI ON HER 22nd BIRTHDAY.....LOL'ing. HBD MAV
"We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong. The amount of work is the same." Having said that, the A1 Challenge camp was cheerful especially by virtue of the fact that our very own was celebrating a birthday and the fact that it was spiced with a convincing lymphatic win is just right and fitting. Well that was the case on Saturday 16th June 2012.
An early riser kick off, 09:30am to be precise, Crane High was scheduled to play against A1 Challenge in the Makerere Court, Main Grounds.
More surprises on court was the introduction of the long-serving guard in Khisa Marie who has been off since the season began, on official duty and finally Fredrickah who also had playing time against the Crane High ladies.
Down to game proper, by the end of the first quarter, A1 Challenge was leading the Crane High ladies by 18:0, yes you saw right. Crane High’s offense was chocked and limited to just that ZERO points by the 1st quarter.
It’s on that note that Tumusiime Ritah decided to take matters in her own hands and lead the Crane High offense. She relentlessly kept driving into the A1 Challenge defense and kept being fouled, eventually converting in the free throw area. Ritah, for all we remember was the only Crane High player with double figures-13points to be precise. Even with the help of Nansubuga Sarah, Apolot Eve, Mishy Tumaine and Kobusinge Moureen the high school ladies were still found wanting.
Another observation was the fact that the entire Crane High team was out-sized, out-smarted and eventually out-played.
Captain Ntale Victoria was not fluid as always definitely having her best games but still managed to run riot and pick the man-of-the-match award scoring a game high 15 points.
Mugasha Carol had a decent game shooting scoring 9 points, Kyomugisha Gloria and Aggie offered a helping hand in the offense scoring 8 points each, Mulwana Olivia and Birungi Mariam also scored 7 points.
Positives are the team is scoring points from all areas; Khisa Marie is back though a little fitness concerns but she is back in camp.
However, M. Fredickah’s return was dainted by her being fouled out and with one point to her name who she lethal as usual in her defense.
Next in line is Gladiators on Sunday morning at the YMCA Courts, the game which will climax the end of the 2012/13 FUBA-Airtel Basketball first round.
Missing in action was; Bazira Liz, Irakoze Doreen, Kabuji Larry, Okot Barbra and long term absentee’s in Bagiire Dorcus and Lokidi Angella.

CRANE HIGH FACES AN UPHILL TASK AS THEY FACE A1 CHALLENGE TOMORROW @ 9:30AM
A1 Challenge keen on finishing the first round on a high prepare to face a pretty hardworking side in Crane High School.
A1 Challenge a week ago fought past Makerere Sparks and have been in high spirits since.
Under the new captain Ntale Victoria who prefers to lead by example and has been the most lethal and on-point player so far in as far as their offensive game is concerned, Crane High defense should be wary of the A1 Challenge offense.
However, the Crane High ladies have endured hard times, beaten by Nabisunsa Girls recently and lying at the bottom end of the table.
Talk about reason enough to inspire them to play hard ball tomorrow.
See you when the sun rises at the YMCA Courts....
Have a blessed weekend

A1 CHALLENGE 39:33 MUK SPARKS
A1 CHALLENGE REVENGE SERVED COLD
A Friday evening opener saw A1 Challenge come face to face with the side that beat them last season in what was a torrid end to the last season.
Missing in action was Okot Barbra and Bazira Lizzie who reportedly are feared to be nursing injuries.
On this day Kakkazi Carol and Ntale Vicky led the team, both having pretty decent games.
Reports raising concern over the low scoring game and whether its an indication of a stoop in the FUBA Womens League.

A1 SEEK TO GO AND DO DAMAGE ON THE MAKERERE SPARKS
This Friday we have two mouth watering games where A1 Challenge host Makerere Sparks. It was the second week of October when Team A1 Challenge had back-to-back defeats to KIU Rangers and Makerere Sparks. If my memory serves me right, the score was 48:47.
Fortunes are different this time around with the camp alittle different and looking motivated to beat whoever is on their way. New captain Ntale Victoria is leading by example and has been their most lethal offensive player.
Also Aggie has improved greatly standing in big defensively and picking those rebounds and just needs alittle more support from whoever partners her down in the D area.
Great shooting from Birungi Mariam and Nalubega Maggie has also brought diversity in their scoring options.
The Sparks will miss Hellen their work horse who is not playing for one reason or another and will have to look to Karungi Charlyn, Marie and Susan Mirembe and not forgetting a player familiar to A1 Challenge in Wiltshere Dorothy.
Still missing is Angela Lokidi to injury, Bagiire Dorcus, Khisa Marie for A1 Challenge and Hellen and Bridget Kalanghuka for Makerere Sparks
One thing is for sure, we are in for quite a spectacle.
Friday at 18:30hrs see you at YMCA court.
Have a great week.

A1 CHALLENGE SET-UP AHEAD OF THE MAKERERE SPARKS GAME ON FRIDAY
Shortly after the hard fought win against the Amazon Rhino's on Saturday morning, Team A1 Challenge enter the training camp on Tuesday in preparation for their game with Makerere Sparks.
One thing is for sure that the encounter with the Makerere Sparks come with alot of intensity and physical approach to the game and this calls for a step up mentally and defensively because with work horses like Hellen particarly and Karungi Charlyn, the A1 Challenge needs to work together to close all the gaps that the opponents will seemingly be all out to exploit.
Sparks shooter Susan Mirembe will also be looking to stand up tall in this contest.
Having said that Okot Barbra is back in camp after a minor knee injury that had her out of action for 2 weeks and she's a huge boost considering her mean-defensive approach. She was slightly involved in the hard fought win [48:43] against Amazon Rhino's.
She joins to help Aggie who has been in ascendency considering Bazira Lizzie's cautious approach thanks to her wrist injury which is still demerit in her game.
Also Fredrikah is back in the squad after being out for a while on academic commitments and sickness. She was one of the unused-subs in the previous game and she brings more options defensively for Team A1 Challenge.
Ntale Victoria has been the most on-form offensive forward for A1 Challenge scoring a game high 16 points in their previous game and will be seeking to continue from where she left off. However, other players have to step up and put up points on the score board because collectively they trounce opposition.
Kabuji Larrisah also was not involved in the last game and should be available to partner Aggie especially in cleaning up the board with the rebounds and stopping Karungi Charlyn and Maria Mutale.
Kakkazi Carol also rested the previous game and she should be able to return to her guard role and partner Kyomugisha Gloria and try to orchestrate another win which will be sweet revenge considering they lost to Sparks in the dismal end of the last season.
Mulwana Olivia, Mugasha Carol, Birungi Mariam, Larrisah K., Doreen Irakoze and Sylivia Nakazibwe should be available for selection.

A1 CHALLENGE'S RESILIENCE SEE THEM EDGE AMAZON RHINO 48:43
In an early morning fixture 09:30am to be precise, a little awkward timing for the A1 ladies ,however , they led comfortably in all the quarters. [13:11, 21:19, 33:30, 48:43]
Great shooting for Nalubega Maggie epitomized the quarters.
Having said this, the Amazon Rhino ladies coached by Vinnie Jurua and Olobo Moses fought as a team, till the last quarter where they seemed to be reckless in the fouling department. They played basic hard defense which saw them stay close to A1 Challenge in the score board area as they pounced on the break where they exploited the gaps left behind by Team A1 Challenge.
Joan and Annie plus their centre Maggie J. had fairly decent games both offensively and defensively, till the fourth quarter when their constant fouls cost them, especially with Joanna being fouled out.
Speaking of being fouled out, Bazira Lizzie of A1 Challenge also was fouled out.
This was so close a game to call with just a minute to go and the difference at one point being down to 3points till Kyomugisha Gloria stepped up and started driving in aggressively and picked fouls which she comfortably converted.
Barbra Okot also had a run-in controlling the pace in the later parts of the game considering the nervy-end, with any mistake seemingly could decide the game.
Anyway for her good ball handling and calm play, it was what she does best, run the clock down, create options pass the ball down, if you get into a good position, go ahead and shoot.
A1 Challenge were constantly being caught on the break where Joanne and Annie scored quite a number of baskets, forcing Coach Jeff to switch the tactics a little.
Vicky Nassolo had another great game, growing into her best shape and scoring a game high 16 points. She had assistance from the likes of Birungi Mariam who also scored 9 points and 7 points from Nalubega Maggie who didn't have alot of playing time but still made vital points when she came on court.
Amazon Rhino's main offensive threats were Joanne, Annie and Jacquei with 13points, 12 points and 7 points respectively.
Great positives for A1 Challenge is their shooting is getting better, however defensively Aggie needs help from Lizzie and Doreen especially when picking rebounds defensively.
A case in point is the high number of turn-overs in the game, that surely could have cost the team. Tighter on the ball and lets have less of the turn-overs, then lastly precision in the shooting-on-the-line area.
Otherwise good hussle ladies....on to the next.
Un-used subs: Fredrikah .M
Notable absentees were Kakkazi Carol and Larrisah K and the long off's in Bagiire Dorcas, Khisa Marie and Lokidi Angella.
In other related news, last nights games saw DMark Power defeat Kyambogo Warriors 71:68 in what i would call mouth-watering game.
